Medical Terminology: Mastering the Basics is a dynamic worktext-and-multimedia program that delivers a streamlined, activity-oriented approach to teaching students the terms they need to know to be successful in a health sciences career. Organized by body systems, the worktext covers essential root words, prefixes, and suffixes and summarizes common diseases and disorders, diagnostic tests and procedures, and therapeutic treatments. Activities and assessments are interspersed throughout the text to reinforce students' knowledge and understanding of medical terms and their meanings. When students have completed the worktext, they should be able to accurately label anatomical diagrams; build, dissect, and define terminology related to the body systems; correctly spell and pronounce medical terms; identify common medical abbreviations and acronyms; and interpret medical records.
A uniquely streamlined, consistent learning method encourages mastery of medical terminology word elements through hands-on, activity-based learning rather than rote memorization.
Dynamic, interactive exercises on the companion and mobile websites reinforce student comprehension by providing valuable practice in identifying, building, and dissecting medical terms.
Practical activities, such as medical record interpretation and healthcare internship scenarios, bring real-world relevancy to the subject.
