About Author(s)

Elizabeth J. Hitch, Ph. D. - is Dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies at Eastern Illinois University. She came to Eastern from Central Michigan University where, as Department of Human Environmental Studies professor and Director of Teacher Education, she coordinated the teacher preparation program by working with 27 academic departments and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in curriculum development, evaluation techniques, and methods of teaching in formal and nonformal settings. Her involvement in a statewide project to assist life management teachers in meeting state standards included development of public relations videotapes, brochures, and posters for use by teachers; a variety of instructional materials; and a curriculum guide to help teachers meet the needs of exceptional students in family and consumer sciences classrooms.

June Pierce Youatt, Ph. D. - is professor at Michigan State University in the Department of Family and Child Ecology where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in family and consumer sciences related to family community services. She has served as a parenting education specialist with Michigan State University Extension, and for nine years, directed a statewide project to assist teachers in implementing program standards through professional development, curriculum development, and program evaluation. Dr. Youatt is currently directing the graduate teaching certificate program in family and child ecology. She is recipient of several awards, including the American Home Economics Association's 1986 New Achiever, State of Michigan Excellence in Teaching, Michigan Home Economist of the Year, and College of Human Ecology Teacher of the Year at her university.
