PE Digital Walkthrough
Fitness and Wellness Skills is a standards-based, comprehensive course curriculum that includes all of the resources teachers need to facilitate both active and cognitive learning in their fitness course. Because no two physical education classrooms are alike, Fitness and Wellness Skills provides the ultimate flexibility for in-person or online instruction. Using the detailed lesson plans as a guide, teachers can personalize the content to suit their students’ unique needs. Core content can be shared with students using handouts, PowerPoint presentations that support teacher-led instruction, or via instructional videos. Cognitive learning is reinforced with numerous active-learning opportunities—getting students moving while engaging with the information they have learned. Detailed lesson plans and activity instructions help teachers plan each day, facilitate active learning, and debrief with students. Students will leave this course equipped with the skills to build a comprehensive fitness plan and achieve lifelong wellness.
Students will learn the benefits of, and strategies to achieve, physical, social, and emotional wellness. As the course progresses, they will gain the tools they need to participate in and develop safe, effective, fitness plans. Students will benefit from these skills throughout their lives.
Thematic Task Cards and an Exercise Video Library provide visual reinforcement of exercises and activities to integrate into any workout.
Exit Ticket handouts present an opportunity to check in with students and confirm understanding of the day’s concepts.
Handouts compliment the module lessons, giving students a chance to demonstrate proficiency in the exercise and activities skills developed in the module.
Each module includes a Pretest and Posttest and each lesson within a module includes Review and Reflection Questions, which teachers can use to track student progress and confirm understanding of the module.
Fitness Activities are a fun way to have students get warmed up, develop self-management skills, and find enjoyment in physical activity. Use these activities throughout class to prepare students for a workout, relieve stress before an assessment, or just encourage students to have fun being physically active.
The author, William Bode, has nearly 30 years of teaching experience. He was named 2016 North Carolina’s PE Teacher of the Year and in 2017 he was the SHAPE Southern District High school PE TOY.
Correlated to the TEKs for Lifetime Fitness and Wellness Pursuits (formerly Foundations of Personal Fitness) and the SHAPE Grade-Level Outcomes.
